Dr. Vicki Román-Lagunas has dedicated most of her adult life to institutions of higher education. She is passionate about her vocation, especially for working in institutions like Indiana University Northwest, because she knows that through her work, and the work of the faculty, staff, and students, we are transforming the lives of our students, and the communities in which we live and serve.
Vicki received her Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from the Florida State University. Her research focuses on the literature written by and about the oppressed populations in South and Central America. As the first in her family, and the only in her generation, to complete a college degree, her passion for higher education stems from her conviction that education is the pathway to a better life and a better world. Her personal life, her work at Northeastern Illinois University and Indiana University Northwest, underscore her commitment to diversity, and to using every opportunity to better articulate the value of living and working in communities as diverse as Northwest Indiana.
