TJ is the Assistant Vice President for University Academic Affairs (UAA) and serves as the Director of the University Transfer Office (UTO). He has served in the UAA office since October 2010, where he founded and wrote the charter for the UTO and served as one of the liaisons to the regional campuses for the Blueprint for Student Attainment. TJ earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Bellarmine University in 1983 and his MFA in creative writing from Indiana University Bloomington in 1989. He began his academic career in the fall of 1989 on the Indiana University East campus in Richmond, Indiana. While there, he won three Trustees Teaching Awards, IU East’s Helen Lees Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Distinguished Service Award, and the all-university Sylvia E. Bowman Award for Teaching. He served as chair of the Humanities and Fine Arts Division and later as founding Dean for the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences on the East campus. In addition, he also writes and publishes fiction.
